Building Furniture to Last
An heirloom furniture piece is a large investment, but it is just that; an investment. Anyone who has assembled, or worse, tried to move “flat-box” furniture knows the pain of crumbling particle board, loosening screws, and scuffs/scratches that can’t be repaired. With commissioned pieces, the visible parts are made with solid hardwoods that can be refinished, repaired, and are resistant to scuffs/dings/dents.
We rarely use screws, nails, or bolts. Our furniture is made primarily with techniques that have been in use since the 16th century (because they work!). These techniques include mortise and tenon joints, dovetails, and turnbuttons rather than pocket-hole screws, air-nails, and butt joints (which are known to come apart in little time).
Commission Process
When choosing Queen City Woodworks, you have complete control over the design process from drafting to wood selection, to final finishes. We also offer full design options where we use our expertise and your goals to create one of a kind pieces that will last.
Once we receive a call, email, or text, we will discuss your goals and start designing your piece. Drafts will be sent until you are happy with the design, and then the process begins!
